Disney’s long-gestating film adaptation of the children’s book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is ready to start production very soon and the film’s casting is finally complete. Character actresses Jennifer Coolidge and Megan Mullally are the last-minute additions to the cast.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney said that the production will be entirely based in the Los Angeles area, with shooting taking place Pasadena, Arcadia, the San Fernando Valley and Melody Ranch in Newhall. The film is based on the 1972 book by Judith Viorst and is being directed by Miguel Arteta (Cedar Rapids).

This is a 21 Laps Entertainment and Jim Henson Company co-production with Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner playing Alexander’s parents. Alexander will be played by Ed Oxenbould, who has not made a film before.

Joining Garner and Carrell is Coolidge and Mullally. As Deadline notes, Mullally remains best known for her role on Will & Grace. She recently appeared on and Web Therapy.

Coolidge has a recurring role on CBS’ 2 Broke Girls and will be seen in the film Austenland.

Alexander is set for release in October 2014.
