There’s been a flurry of Marvel related news this week as we learn who will be playing new characters in the upcoming films. After a rumor earlier this week, it has been confirmed that Elizabeth Olsen is in talks to play one of those new characters, at least in the films.
As we reported yesterday, Bleeding Cool claimed that Olsen, an indie darling who appeared in the acclaimed film Martha Marcy May Marlene, was writer/director Joss Whedon’s second choice for the role of the Scarlet Witch.
Today, The Hollywood Reporter’s sources confirmed that Olsen is in advance talks for the role. The Scarlet Witch is the daughter of Magneto and the sister of Quicksilver. While both characters are primarily in The Avengers, Magneto won’t be able to appear in the Disney/Marvel Studios films because Fox has the film license to Magneto and all X-Men characters. Quicksilver, though, will be able to appear in both Fox and Disney films. (Quicksilver is slated to appear in X-Men: Days of Future Past.)
As CinemaBlend notes, Kick-Ass’ Aaron Taylor-Johnston has said that he’s in talks to play Quicksilver. He and Olsen both appear in next year’s Godzilla reboot.
The other big Marvel news of the day came when it was confirmed that Bradley Cooper is in talks to voice Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy. That film opens in August 2014, while Avengers 2 is slated for May 2015.
