Attorneys Cristo and Sharlene Lassiter have been fighting each other in divorce court in Cincinnati, Ohio for nearly twice as long as they have been married.
They were married for 10 years. Sharlene has since remarried.
Most divorce cases are settled in a few months to a year. This divorce case is different because it lasted five years, and the court battles have drug on for an additional 12 years. The majority of the conflict involves child support and custody of their two children.
Christo Lassiter and Sharlene are also law professors. Christo teaches at the University of Cincinnati College of Law . Sharlene, now Sharlene Boltz, teaches at Northern Kentucky University .
Common Pleas Court Judge Leslie Ghiz, who was the judge involved in a hearing last month, believes that the attorneys should be sanctioned by the State Bar of Ohio for exploiting the legal system and setting a bad example for their students, the ABA Journal reports.
They have been lectured by a court for their courtroom behavior at least once before.
Ohio 1st District Court of Appeal noted that hostilities in the case have extended litigation far longer than necessary and could be harmful to their children’s well-being, Business Insider reports.
Christo denies that he has been using the courts to retaliate against his former spouse, Cincinnati News reports.
They have another hearing next month.
