A fifth Vanderbilt football player was indicted Friday for allegedly being involved in the rape of an unconscious student.
Chris Boyd, 21, was a star wide receiver on the football team. He was indicted Friday, and on Saturday went to police and turned himself in. According to Tennessean, Boyd tried to help his other involved teammates cover up the sexual assault and is being charged with one felony count of being an accessory after the fact.
Boyd’s bond is set at $25,000. Vanderbilt said Boyd, along with four other teammates involved, has been suspended from the team.
All five of the players were suspended from the team on June 29, and are facing rape charges from the incident.
Corey Baley, Brandon Banks, and Jaborian McKenzie, all 19, have already been bonded out of jail. Brandon Vandenburg, 20, is still in jail on $350,000 bond.
Miles Finley, 19, and Joseph Quinzio, 20, were both charged with felony tampering with evidence Friday. Both of their bonds are set at $150,000.
The university has released a statement about the situation.
"All of these allegations, including those brought today, are deeply troubling, and we take them very seriously," Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs Beth Fortune said, CBS reports.
Their arraignment is set for Aug. 21.
