After a small plane crashed into two homes in East Haven, Connecticut Friday, four bodies have been recovered at the scene, bringing the official death toll to four.
The plane crashed into the two houses just after 11 a.m. Friday. In the first house, 13-year-old Sade Brantley and 1-year-old Madisyn Mitchell were killed instantly. Their neighbor, David Espisito, ran into the house and managed to save their mother who was also in there. No one was home at the other house that was hit.
According to NBC the pilot, 54-year-old William Henningsgaard and his son, 17-year-old Maxwell, were visiting colleges on the east coast. They were landing at Tweed New Haven Airport during rainy weather when the air-traffic controllers asked him if he could see the runway. He said he could, and then they lost touch. Soon after, the plane overshot the runway and crashed upside-down into the two houses before bursting into flames. Henningsgaard and his son were killed instantly.
Neighbors of the victims felt the crash immediately and were shocked to see two of their neighbors’ houses up in flames when they went outside.
"I heard it and I felt it," said 51-year-old Joseph Euskolitz, who lives a few houses down, Wall Street Journal reports. "All I heard was a burst of air, like a wind tunnel. It literally shook my whole house."
A vigil was held for the victims at 7 p.m. Saturday night in East Haven. Neighbors and residents of the town are trying to show support for the mother of the two young girls who were killed in the house.
