George Zimmerman’s wife Shellie was in court today to answer to charges of perjury during a hearing in regards to the shooting death of teen Trayvon Martin. She took a plea deal and pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.

NBC News reports that Shellie Zimmerman was sentenced to 100 hours of community service plus a year of probation. By pleading guilty, she avoided a felony charge of perjury.

She will also be able to continue seeking employment in health care.

Prosecutors said that Shellie lied during an April 2012 bond hearing for her husband, reports ABC News. She told Zimmerman’s attorneys and prosecutors that they barely had any money. She had appeared at the hearing over the phone and said twice that the couple was almost broke.

In fact, he and the family had raised almost $200,000 from an online fund for his defense. There were also jailhouse recordings between the couple that revealed that they knew about the fund. Zimmerman’s bond was then revoked and his bail jumped to a $1 million bond.

Zimmerman was found not guilty in the shooting death of Martin six weeks ago. Earlier this week, his attorney said that he is asking the state of Florida to pay at least $200,000 in legal expenses.
