George Zimmerman, the subject of nationwide discussion in the racial controversy of Trayvon Martin’s death, has avoided public attention since the trial’s end. But Zimmerman was pulled over Sunday in northern Texas for speeding. He had a gun in his glove compartment.
Since being acquitted of all charges relating to Martin’s death, Zimmerman surfaced once to help a couple escape from the SUV where they were trapped after an accident. Zimmerman seems to want to disappear; when Officer A.R. Humphrey pulled him over and asked for his destination, Zimmerman’s response was “Nowhere in particular."
"Nowhere in particular. Why do you say that?" asked Humphrey.
"You didn't see my name?" responded Zimmerman.
Yahoo! News reports that city manager Brian Brooks called it a normal incident. “It wasn't for super-excessive speeds, they just got him on regular speeding.” Brooks couldn’t answer some questions on the short incident, including what type of gun Zimmerman had, since no citation was issued, according to CNN (CNN also has video of the incident). Law in Texas permits storage of guns in glove compartments, and Zimmerman reported it to the officer as Humphrey approached.
Humphrey wished him a safe trip as he left.
