Gia Allemand, a former contestant on ABC's The Bachelor has been hospitalized in Louisiana in critical condition.
People Magazine reports that Allemand, 29, was admitted to University Hospital in New Orleans following "a serious medical event" on Monday night. Allemand's mother and boyfriend, professional basketball player Ryan Anderson of the New Orleans Pelicans, are by her side.
In a press release from ABC, the family says, "On behalf of the family, we kindly ask for privacy at this time." No other details of her medical emergency have been confirmed at this time. However, details about Allemand's condition may have emerged on Twitter.
E! Online reports a tweet from one of her friends, health and beauty expert Melinda Farinda, read "@GiaAllemand is on life support w little pulse and barely breathing ..cause unknown ..next 48 hours critical please pray for Gia everyone." Farinda also added, "I'm so sad about my best friend right now...how could this have happened to such an incredible person..she needs to come out of it!"
Allemand has been the subject of many other tweets today. Jake Pavelka, the Bachelor that Allemand was vying for, tweeted, "Please pray for @GiaAllemand… A dear friend and one of the sweetest women I know… #powerofprayer." Additionally Allemand's rep tweeted, "Understand everyone has questions about #GiaAllemand - another statement is pending for tomorrow...Prayers pls."
