An Atlanta elementary school was the site of fired gunshots Tuesday. Police have identified the suspect and taken him into custody.
The suspect, who is believed to be 19, fired a shot at the Ronald E. McNair Discovery Leaning Academy's campus, prompting school officials to evacuate students. A head count was taken to make sure that each student was safe.
According to The Los Angeles Times, a call to DeKalb County police was not returned at first. However, police arrived soon after to search the school and eventually took the suspect into custody.
Students sat outside in the school field until buses were brought in to take them away from the campus grounds.
The school's superintendent told Portland Press Herald "it's a blessed day, all of our children are safe." He applauded law enforcement and school officials for the professional response in the wake of emergency.
No casualties have been reported and students have been returned to their parents at a nearby WalMart.
