Two-year-old Hazel Hammersley has undergone a successful surgery and will soon be allowed to go home.
Hammersley, who became an Internet sensation when her mom posted a sign asking people to send pizza is battling stage 3 Neuroblastoma.
Her mother, Lauara Hammersley, tells People that the successful surgery removed the Neuroblastoma saying, “I'm so relieved…"She really is a courageous little girl."
Although the Neuroblastoma has been removed, doctors cannot officially say that Hazel is cancer-free for good. She will still have to undergo a series of tests including chemotherapy, stem cell transplant and radiation therapy.
David Bliss, Hazel’s surgeon, explained that he would certainly call the surgery a success noting, “We were able to achieve all of our surgical goals and to give Hazel the best opportunity to continue her journey towards a cure."
Hammersley notes that the July surprise pizza party restored her faith after feeling exhausted and depressed from her daughter’s grueling battle with cancer. She explains that when they finally get home, “We'll have a big pizza party."
