Get ready to hear James Brown at the movies. The long-gestating biopic on the Godfather of Soul has earned a title and a release date. Tate Taylor’s film about Brown will hit theaters in October 2014 and will be titled Get On Up.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be released on Oct. 17, 2014. It is being produced by Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, who has been interested in bringing Brown’s life to the screen since 2001, before the singer died in 2006.
The release date comes just days after Universal and Imagine confirmed that 42 star Chadwick Boseman will play Brown. Boseman impressed audiences as baseball legend Jackie Robinson in 42. Taylor, who directed the 2011 surprise hit The Help, will direct.
It’s also been reported that Help actresses Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis and Nelsan Ellis are being considered for roles in Get On Up. Spencer won an Oscar for The Help and Davis was nominated.
For those looking ahead, the only other film scheduled for Oct. 17, 2014 is Fox's Frankenstein with Daniel Radcliffe.
