More Than We Think is the debut album from Brooklyn singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Jay Stolar.
Stolar was the former front man of the band Julius C. He has ventured on his own and has created his own soulful pop, blues-rock, and R&B sound. Stolar is talented in playing the guitar, bass, and piano and writing his heartfelt lyrics. He is currently residing in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and a prominent artist in the New York City music scene.
The album opens with the single “Fall Apart” which is a slow melodic single that showcases Stolar’s soulful voice. It opens with Stolar’s singing only and then the chilling drumbeat and eloquent playing of the piano come into factor and intensify the song. It is a heartfelt single of “falling apart” from a lover.
The next single is “Like You Do” that is another soulful song that is catchy with its use of ooh-ooh-ooh-oohs when he sings “you” in the chorus. It shows off the bluesy rock sound and it becomes an instant favorite with its playful beat.
About the song “Like You Do” Solar told American Songwriter, “I really wanted to capture the idea that true faith lies beneath a veil of doubt. I think we all face that in relationships. We get scared and try to pull away but once we really face that fear, and give in to it, that’s when real love is possible. I think the double meaning of the phrase ‘like you do’ helps to get that point across. In the verses ‘like you do’ is coming out of fear, but by the end of the song ‘like you do’ is coming from a place of awe and excitement.”
In the following song “Leading Me Down” he channels a Bruno Mars vibe. The song opens with the piano playing and Stolar’s sensual voice harmoniously singing. It is a soulful pop piano ballad that melds with the sounds of the prominent drumbeat. It is a dark love song as Stolar sings about he is tired of drinking and her love is leading him down to the darkness.
More Than We Think is set to be released October 8, 2013. Keep your eyes and ears open for this emerging artist.
