‘NSync member, Joey Fatone, is denying rumors that the boy band will be performing at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards this weekend. Instead, he says he arrived in New York City for his cousin’s birthday.
Upon landing at a New York airport, Fatone said “I'm actually going to be going to Staten Island. My cousin is turning 40, which I shouldn't say. Surprise 40th on Saturday. So I'm going to be going to her birthday party.”
He added when asked if he was going to be at the VMAs, "Why the hell would I attend?”
He kind of backtracked when he mentioned Justin Timberlake’s honor at this show, saying “I mean, for Justin obviously, he's getting the Vanguard Award, which is cool. We heard about that, and that's when the rumors started flying about doing all this stuff,”Perez Hilton reports.
He concluded of it being just a rumor, "As far as I know. I haven't gotten a phone call or anything. Just like his wedding. I didn't get the phone call or the invite."
Lance Bass also addressed the rumors, not exactly confirming or denying them, saying, "Justin Timberlake is getting the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award this Sunday at the awards, so of course people are automatically going to think we’re going to be there performing, but this is exactly how it happened and I knew these rumors were going to fly,” adding, “It’s amazing to see the reaction out there on Twitter and social media [and] how many people are supporting *NSYNC.”
