John Mellencamp’s two teenage sons have turned themselves in to police after they were charged with the beating of a 19-year-old man.
On Thursday, Speck Mellencamp, 18, and Hud Mellencamp, 19, were charged by prosecutors for allegedly beating 19-year-old Alexander Bucy on his porch. The beating had allegedly occurred on July 29 after a party, but no one pressed charges at the time. According to Bloomington, Indiana Police Department Officer Lucas Fosnaugh’s report, the brothers walked up to Bucy and Speck hit the man in the face.
According to the Indianapolis Star, Speck turned himself in Friday morning. He was booked at 11 a.m. and released a short time later on $5,000 bond. Another man allegedly involved in the fight, Ty Smith, was booked on Thursday and released on $500 bond.
Hud turned himself in Monday morning, reports Fox59, and also released after posting bond.
Chris Cain, a friend of Bucy’s, told Fox59 that Bucy had to miss a week of work after the beating. When he went back, “he had to wear sunglasses of course, pretty embarrassed about what had happened,” Cain said.
“All three of them just started beating him, punching him and kicking him,” Cain recalled. “They were passing his head around like it was a punching bag, all three of them just taking turns. All Alex could do at that time was be in a defense mode.”
The Mellencamps' father is best known for the hits “Jack and Diane,” “Pink Houses” and many others.
