Pop singer Justin Timberlake will be the latest recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. On Thursday, MTV announced the big news and also revealed that Timberlake will be a guest performer during the ceremony.
Whenever the time feels right, MTV will award a musician, who they deem put out iconic and memorable music videos, with the Video Vanguard honor. Past recipients include Jackson himself, Madonna, the Beatles and a select other few. Britney Spears last received the honor during the 2011 ceremony.
Timberlake has been putting out music videos since first appearing on the scene in the late '90s with his boy band NSYNC. Since then, he has become a big solo artist and put out memorable clips like "Cry Me a River" and "What Goes Around.../...Comes Around."
Not only will Timberlake be hitting the stage to pick up the award, he will also perform that night. Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus are also set to hit the stage.
The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards will premiere on Sunday, August 25.
