Katherine Heigl has been away from television for over three years, since she left ABC's Grey's Anatomy. Now, she's hoping to make a comeback with a CIA drama that the networks are reportedly interested in.
According to Deadline, the project will be written by Alexi Hawley, who is currently a supervising producer on Fox's The Following. It's set to be another crime procedural based on CIA operations, with Heigl as a liaison between the agency and the president.
USA Today's sources say that NBC could be the likely landing spot for the currently untitled project. Since it's only at the script stage, it's likely that the show wouldn't reach television until the 2014-2015 season. Deadline noted that ABC is out because the project is similar to Scandal.
Since Heigl left Grey's, she's embarked on a movie career with varying degrees of success. She most recently appeared in The Big Wedding, which only grossed $21 million in the U.S.
In 2012, Heigl had expressed interest in returning to Grey's Anatomy, but that never happened.
