Considering Lady Gaga’s half-naked opening performance at the MTV VMA’s as well as Miley Cyrus’ highly-buzzed about performance, Katy Perry’s performance of “Roar” was pretty well receieved.
The singer, 27, opened up about her new album Prism and said she wants the album to be inspiring and uplifting.
“I started the record in November, but things were really flowing by the spring and it's a song about standing up for yourself," she told MTV News about “Roar.”
She added, "Who can be the biggest bully in the equation is yourself and can get in your way and it's a song about speaking up for yourself and having the strength."
Since “Roar” has proven to be just a big a hit as any of her previous songs, Perry said “I've always kind of gone with my intuitive feeling — if something really moves me, if I get those goosebumps or chicken pox, if I get those then I know it struck a chord in me."
Perry had five No. 1 singles come off of her last album, Teenage Dream, but ”Roar” was the biggest first week of sales in her career with 557,000 copies sold or downloaded.
