Kelly Clarkson was stopped by the British government for trying to bring over a rare Jane Austen ring.

According to USA Today, the American Idol singer bought a rare ring once owned by the Pride and Prejudice author at an action last year for around $233,000. However, Culture Minister Ed Vaizey has put an export bar on the ring until September 30th, hoping a British buyer will buy the national treasure.

If someone is serious in purchasing the ring, but need more time to raise amount, the deadline will be pushed to December 30th. Clarkson has agreed to sell the ring is there is a buyer.

“Jane Austen’s modest lifestyle and her early death mean that objects associated with her of any kind are extremely rare, so I hope that a UK buyer comes forward so this simple but elegant ring can be saved for the nation,” said Vaizey.

The Daily News reports until Clarkson, the turquoise and gold ring stayed within the Austen family.

Jane Austen has written six novels and has been a popular British author since the early 19th century. Her face will be on the new £10 note starting in 2017, replacing Charles Darwin.
