Kendrick Lamar's major label debut, "good kid m.A.A.d city" is a critically acclaimed album, and it now has the platinum plaque to show for it. Kendrick has surpassed the one million mark in albums sold as of Wednesday.
Back in June there was a preemptive celebration for the album going platinum because, at that point, there had been one million copies shipped, and it took until now for them to be sold reports Hotnewhiphop.
Initially the album was backed by hit singles such as "Swimming Pools (Drank)" and "Poetic Justice". The album premiered at the number two spot on the Billboard charts selling over 240 thousand copies the opening week. The album was released on November 10, 2012, and by the end of 2012 Lamar had already sold over 500 thousand units.
Kendrick has recently been in the news for his guest verse on Big Sean's song "Control" where he name drops a few top rappers (some of which are his friends) and says he wants to be better than all of them. This verse has created a ton of buzz, and Billboard believes that this verse was the final nudge the album needed to reach platinum territory. Billboard also reported that Kendrick has logged the most performance time by any artist this past summer with 46 hours on stage.
