Hip-hop duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis invited a woman on stage to propose to her girlfriend.
PerezHilton reported that during the opening portion of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' Good Morning America performance, comedic opener Tom Kelly noticed a fan's sign that read, "Can I propose to my gf on stage?" Macklemore allowed Kelly to invite them up. Kelly said, "I pulled Val and Kara up to the stage. In front of over 5,000 Macklemore fans, Val pulled the trigger. Val had a ring ready to go. It was my first time officiating an engagement in seven years of doing warm up for TV shows.”
ABCNews reported that concertgoer Val had whimsically written the request to propose to her girlfriend on the back of a sign that said, "Same love. 1 year anniversary." "Same Love" is the title of Macklemore's pro-LGBT song, and the couple's favorite tune. Val's girlfriend, Kara, was oblivious to her girlfriend's plan. They were pulled on stage and Val popped the question. Kara happily accepted to the cheers of over 5,000 fans and declared "Same love" in celebration. They were then invited to sit on stage to enjoy the performance.
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' "Same Love," has received over 67 million views on YouTube. According to MTV the two will perform the socially conscious anthem at the 2013 MTV VMAs.
The Seattle-based artists are nominated for six Moonmen.
