A train carrying flammable and corrosive chemicals and materials derailed near Latwell, Louisiana on Sunday causing the evacuation of more than 100 homes in close proximity to the derailment.

According to FOX News, the 100 plus homes evacuated were within one mile of the accident and have remained empty today.

Governor of Louisiana, Bobby Jindal, stated in a press release that 23 train cars derailed and 14 of them contained regulated products, including the three cars leaking lubricant oil, a class 8 substance called caustic soda, and the class 9 hazardous substance Dodecanol. Workers are using dams and dikes to contain the leaking materials, and the evacuation is only expected to remain for a couple of days.

There has yet to be any reported injuries, although one man was admitted to a hospital complaining of eye irritation, and Master Trooper Daniel “Scott” Moreau assured the leaks were contained and that air pollution detectors did not pick up on anything as the amounts were so small, NBC News reports.
