Country star Luke Bryan’s Crash My Party started off with a surprisingly strong debut on the Billboard 200 album chart last week and kept the streak going for another week. He was able to take the No. 1 slot, despite John Mayer’s new Paradise Valley being released.
Crash My Party kicked off its chart run with 528,000 copies, the third-best debut of the year so far. While it fell 70 percent in week two, Billboard reports that it still sold 159,000 copies, Nielsen SoundScan numbers show. It’s just the sixth album of the past year to spend two frames at No. 1.
Mayer probably wasn’t pleased to see that Paradise Valley started off slow. The album, which features contributions from Katy Perry and Frank Ocean, only sold 144,000 copies in its first week. That’s a noticeable dip from last year’s Born and Raised, which sold 219,000 copies.
Still, it keeps his remarkable streak of Top 10 albums alive. Since his first album, Room for Squares in 2001, all six of his studio albums have made it to the Top 10.
The No. 3 slot is also held by a new release - TGT’s Three Kings, which debuted with 76,000 copies. Jimmy Buffett’s Songs From St. Somewhere debuted at No. 5 with 55,000 copies sold. Earl Sweatshirt’s Doris rounded out the Top 5 with 49,000 copies in its first week.
The rest of the Top 10 includes: Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines (46,000); Now 47 (33,000); Teen Beach Movie (32,000); A$AP Ferg’s Trap Lord (32,000) and Jay Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail (30,0000).
Katy Perry’s “Roar” stayed at the top of the Digital Songs Chart with another 392,000 downloads.
