Independent rapper Macklemore covers the latest issue of Rolling Stone magazine. In the interview, he talks about some of his hit songs like "Thrift Shop" and "Same Love."

Rolling Stone revealed the cover with Macklemore on Wednesday, but the issue itself hit newsstands on Friday. In some interview excerpts provided by Rolling Stone, the rapper talked about struggling with the thought of possibly being a one-hit wonder.

Afraid of being that "the 'Thrift Shop' guy," Macklemore told Rolling Stone, "I went through a place of not being happy, getting put in the box of 'This is a novelty rap song,' and being like, 'What did I sign up for'?"

But it was the success of his music with a bigger message that ended up putting Macklemore at ease. His gay equality anthem, "Same Love," is currently at no. 11 on Billboard's Hot 100 and its success prompted Macklemore to say: "The legacy that I'm leaving on the world is more than just a song about second-hand clothes."

Both Macklemore and his music partner Ryan Lewis are also set to perform at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. It's been a breakout year for the duo who found big success without the help of a record label. Their album, The Heist, has sold over 900,000 copies in the U.S. and spawned two no. 1 singles.
