Marvin Gaye’s son said during an interview Thursday that he does believe that Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” and his other songs are rip offs of his legendary father’s music. Marvin Gaye III slammed Thicke’s lawsuit to protect “Blurred Lines” and left the possibility of legal action open.

Marvin III spoke with TMZ Live with his wife, Wendy and Gaye family spokesman D’Extra Wiley a week after Thicke filed a lawsuit to protect “Blurred Lines” from any claims that he plagiarized Gaye’s Got To Give Up.” He asked a judge to stop any copyright infringement lawsuits and declare that “Blurred Lines” was an original work.

According to The Huffington Post, Marvin III said that they’re fans of Thicke’s, just like he’s a fan of Gaye, but "Our point is that there's a way to do business and a way not to do business.”

He explained, “We're not happy with the way he went about doing the business, let alone suing us over something where he clearly got his inspiration from at the least. That's caused my family a lot of due duress, and myself also. I'm under kidney failure, as well as I'm promoting my own album. I have better things to do than to be sitting here trying to defend my father's legacy, which I'm glad to do cause that's my position.”

Marvin III said that anyone can hear that Thicke has taken some inspiration from Gaye’s works, but “What would he want to be protected from if he didn't do anything?"

He was asked if he would file a lawsuit against Thicke, but he didn’t answer the question directly. His lawyers are “taking care of business,” he said, adding that he’s working to “uphold my father's legacy.”
