Kendra McKenzie Gill, a former Utah beauty queen, was arrested along with three accomplices Saturday for allegedly possessing bombs.
According to The Associated Press, Gill and three of her friends drove around neighborhoods in Riverton on Aug. 2 throwing plastic bottles filled with explosive materials as a prank. No one was injured.
"We don't really understand a clear reason for their behavior," prosecutor Blake Nakamura said. "The reason we charged them is obviously, what they possessed was indeed explosives, and we're alleging they were throwing them near homes and at people, and therefore, had the potential to cause a great deal of harm."
KSL has identified the three accomplices as Bryce Christopher Stone, of Riverton; John Patrick Reagh, of Draper; and Shanna Marie Smith, of Bluffdale.
Stone admitted to creating the bombs by use of water bottles, aluminum foil and chemicals which fire officials have yet to identify. Stone also explained that after throwing the bomb at one friend, in the hopes of scaring the individual, they speed off and waited for another group of friends to arrive home from a concert.
Unified Fire Authority Capt. Clint Mecham explained that the bombs could have definitely called severe harm. "They can sever limbs, they can even kill people depending on what the chemical combinations are used. This is very, very serious."
All four 18-year-olds are being charged with the same four felony charges, punishable by 1 to 15 years in jail.
