The missing Arizona teen whose car was found abandoned in a small rural town in Riddle, Oregon Wednesday was found dead Tuesday 1,000 feet from where his SUV was parked.
Jonathan Croom, 18, had set off on a road trip alone to visit a friend in Seattle and was expected to arrive back at his home in Mesa, Arizona, before Aug. 17 to start classes at the college he attended.
According to ABC, Croom was last heard from on Aug. 16 when he sent a text to his friend saying he wanted to go on an adventure.
His parents knew of his infatuation with the 2007 film Into The Wild and worried he was trying to reenact the film where a man decides to isolate himself in the wilderness of Alaska.
His father David Croom says that his son had just ended a relationship and was going through heartbreak.
“He was a young man who had a broken heart and headed out to try to find himself,“ said David Croom, Examiner reports. “We’re looking forward to finding out exactly what happened.”
Officials are investigating into his death but believe it was most likely a suicide.
