Mark Sutton, the 42-year-old British stuntman who was seen jumping from a helicopter into the London Olympics stadium dressed as James Bond during the opening ceremony last summer, has died in an accident.
According to the U.K. Mirror, Sutton was killed in a wingsuit flying accident in the Swiss Alps. He wing-dived from a helicopter and crashed into a mountain ridge.
Sutton was the man who jumped from the helicopter as Daniel Craig’s stunt double with another stuntman dressed as Queen Elizabeth. Gary Connery, the man who dressed as the Queen, spoke with The Sun and called Sutton “smart, articulate and funny.”
Connery added, “In any sport where you share a common bond you can make friends in a heartbeat that last a lifetime. My relationship with Mark was like that.”
The Telegraph reports that Sutton was participating in an event with 19 others in wing-suits. The cause of the accident isn’t known yet, but it is believed that he died on impact.
Local police did confirm that a 42-year-old Briton died after jumping from 10,826 ft in the Grandes-Otannes region, near the border with France.
