As fans anxiously await the premiere of Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, they latch onto any news they can get about the "psychedelic romance" storyline and its characters. Here are some details about the characters who will and will not be a part of the show.

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland is a spin-off of ABC's Once Upon a Time and follows Alice as she goes back to Wonderland to rescue her love, the genie, from the Red Queen and Jafar. According to EntertainmentWeekly there will be an alliance between the show's two villains: Jafar and the Red Queen. As previously reported, Lost's Naveen Andrews will play the staff-wielding villain and the Red Queen will be played by Emma Ribgy. The creators and actors are interested in portraying these characters not as purely evil, but complex, realistic characters who were driven to their evil ways.

Unlike the Disney classic, Jafar will not have his parrot side-kick.

The Mad Hatter, played by Sebastian Stan, will also be absent from the show. EOnline reports that due to Stan's busy schedule, the iconic character won't be in this season. Wonderland creator Edward Kitsis said, "We would move heaven and earth to get him to come back in either show. We're never going to have a Mad Hatter that isn't going to be played by Sebastian, so we're not recasting him. We're just going to keep that seat empty because he's a special talent."

Although the Mad-Hatter won't be making an appearance this season, other well-known Wonderland character will be. According to Zap2It the show will feature other characters famous to Lewis' classic tale. "We have the hookah-smoking caterpillar, we have John Lithgow as the White Rabbit and you'll see the Cheshire Cat in the pilot."

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland premieres Thursday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
