Phoenix emergency services were called out to BT’s Sports Pub on Wednesday afternoon after a father found his 3-month-old son unresponsive in his hot vehicle.
Sgt. Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix police told AZ Central that the boy’s father “lost track of time” when he stopped by the pub, where he works as a kitchen manager. Before he knew it, his son had been in the car for more than an hour.
"His intentions were to stop in and check very very shortly. Somehow he got distracted, his 3-month-old son was left in the car. When he came out he found that the child was in distress," Thompson said, reports azfamily.
The infant was rushed to Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Medical Center in critical condition after paramedics attempted CPR, but the boy was later pronounced dead.
The father was described by friends and coworkers as “a very loving dad” in a news report by MyFox Phoenix. They also said that what happened must have been “a very terrible mistake”.
Reportedly, the father seemed extremely distraught throughout the ordeal.
Sgt. Thompson said that the 32-year-old father is being questioned and could face charges, but it is still unclear if any will be filed.
