A jury in Cincinnati, Ohio convicted Precious Allen of assault for getting involved in a fistfight between her daughter and a 15-year-old teen girl at Withrow High School.
Witnesses gave conflicting testimony as to who started the fight. Allen’s daughter said that she t only got involved in the fight because the other teen hit her mother first, local news station WLWT reports.
Allen was acquitted on the trespassing charge. She received a sentence of probation, but could go to jail for six months if she violates the terms. She alleges that the girl had been bullying her daughter.
Allen’s daughter now attends a different high school.
"She [Precious] admits, if she had to do it over again, she wouldn't have gone in the room and gotten herself in a pickle," defense attorney Eric Deters told The Associated Press .
Even though Allen was convicted, this case may not be over.
Deters, the defense attorney, has filed a lawsuit in federal court against the school district and the Cincinnati Police Department because the school’s surveillance video is missing, the AP reports. The missing video may show who actually started the fight.
