Groups of Morsi-supporters, which largely consist of Muslim Brotherhood members, have vowed to continue their sit-ins despite a new government-ordered crackdown on protesters.

Egypt’s interim government has given orders to disperse demonstrations at two locations in Cairo, according to the BBC.

The government said it is trying to “address these dangers and put an end to them,” reports Reuters

Depsite these warnings, the Brotherhood has remained vigilant, saying they have no choice but to continue their protests of the removal of former president Mohamed Morsi. Clashes between the Brotherhood and the military have resulted in a large number of civilian deaths, including 82 who were killed only days before the crackdown.

In light of the interim government’s disperse pro-Morsi demonstrations, the US has urged Egypt to respect the freedom of assembly, Daily News Egypt reports.

“We have continued to urge the interim government officials and security forces to respect the right of peaceful assembly. That obviously includes sit-ins,” said State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf.

“We’ve made that point publicly and privately, and we’ll continue to do so.”
