After last week’s dabble into the luxurious (and diamonds worth millions and millions), the stylish competitors are faced with another unconventional challenge. Awakened by Heidi, they take a trip to Coney Island where they are met by Tim Gunn and a spokesperson from Yoplait Yogurt to tell them that they will be serving Yoplait’s new frozen yogurt to pedestrians. From the pedestrians, the designers must get three keywords that describe the Yoplait. Those three words will serve as the inspiration and theme for their design.
But wait, there’s more. Drum roll. It’s a team challenge! The teams that are paired are: Alexander and Justin, Kate and Helen, Jeremy and Ken, Sue and Sandro, Bradon and Karen, Dom and Alexandria and Timothy and Miranda. Miranda isn’t too happy about the pairing, especially because of the tension between the two designers.
The teams race off to the Yoplait carts where people give them keywords like creamy, luxurious, fluffy, tangy, divine and one weird guy says “raspberry town.”
But wait again, there’s even more to the challenge. Not only is this a team challenge, the teams must play carnival games at Luna Park Amusement Park and the prizes they win will serve as the fabric for their garments. Tim Gunn, say what?
The designers collect a menagerie of carnival toys including blue aliens and dolphins, red sombreros and one stuffed unicorn that made Timothy even more spastic than he already is.
Before Tim’s critiques, Sandro and Sue fight over a sewing machine, despite being on the same team. Stubborn Sandro belligerently yells at Sue, meanwhile, Timothy tries to explain what an actual unicorn is before redesigning everything without Miranda’s consent. This is the catalyst to the drama between Miranda and Timothy this entire episode.
Tim’s Critiques
Tim walks around to meet Jeremy and Ken, where he offers his support in the direction they are going. He gives a thumbs up to Alexandria and Dom’s Japanese street culture inspired garment before he meets with Justin and Alexander, telling them to add a little bit more to their very short design. With Karen and Bradon’s design, he praises it, saying no one else in the room was doing what they were doing and that it led his imagination. Then, he meets a very frazzled Sandro and Sue. Sandro calls Sue’s idea “futuristic Gaga shit” while she holds her tongue and hopes for the best. Tim likes Kate and Helen’s design and tells them to go down the strapless route after they express concern with the design. And the worst critique of all comes from Timothy and Miranda’s design, in which he says it looks like a hospital gown on top of being something a Disney princess would wear.
Before the runway show, the tension between Timothy and Miranda explodes as Miranda bashes his character in the sewing room causing him to leave the work room. But his spirits are uplifted by a note from his model Sophie encouraging him to keep going. Eventually, Miranda apologizes.
The Runway
This week, the gorgeous Kelly Osbourne from Fashion Police joined the three judges. The runway show starts off with Bradon and Karen’s design where they showcase a blue and green dress with sculptural elements near the skirt and shoulders. Next, Dom and Alexandria present their blue monster dress with sharp teeth and a pop of red from the mouth. Sandro and Sue’s design was a classic fitted blue dress with a trashbag-like skirt. Next, Helen and Kate’s sculptural design made it down the runway made solely out of red sombreros, kites and stuffed animals. Alexander and Justin had a blue and green dress with plastic fabric wrappd around the neck with a peekaboo chest. Jeremy and Ken presented blue plastic pants with a vest made from a stuffed ice cream cone. Finally, Miranda and Timothy’s design consisted of a simple blue dress with flower petal detailing on the chest with a yellow, textile vest.
Judge’s Deliberation
After the runway show, Heidi reveals that Kate and Helen and Alexandria and Dom are the top two teams while Alexander and Justin and Timothy and Miranda were the teams with the lowest scores.
Dom and Alexandria’s Design: Kelly liked the funness of the design and commented on how modern it was while Heidi said she would wear it and that it made her smile. Zac said it was really inventive, fun and creative. Like Heidi, Nina said the design made her smile and praised the styling.
Kate and Helen’s Design: Heidi was very impressed by their design, calling it an art piece. Nina said it was a very high fashion that didn’t lose any whimsy or fun, and Kelly commented on how incredible it was that it was made out of mainly sombreros. Zac expressed how proud he was of the duo.
Alexander and Justin’s Design: Zac claimed there was too much doing with kelp on the bottom, dorsal fins and seaweed on the bum, although he appreciated the work they put into it. Heidi agreed, telling them they had to edit while Nina made them take off the vest and some other elements of the dress.
Timothy and Miranda’s Design: Heidi immediately expressed that the design was so boring, and Zac took it further saying it looked like someone sat on a pool toy and deflated it. Nina said the color combination reminded her of a toxic waste bag. When asked who should go home, Timothy completely threw Miranda under the bus, saying she was unwilling to compromise. Kelly pointed out that the two clearly did not like each other.
Results
In the end, Helen wins the challenge and immunity. The bottom two consisted of Miranda and Timothy, and it’s Timothy who gets the boot.
