The Rim Fire continues to spread Sunday, most notably near the Yosemite National Park. As of Sunday morning, the fire has reached almost 134,000 acres moving eastward and is seven percent contained.
Almost 2,850 firefighters have been fighting the blaze since it began on Aug. 17, and officials are recruiting more.
California Governor Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency for San Francisco because the fire is threatening their water and power systems, along with those of other nearby cities.
According to USA Today the fire is burning about 20 miles west of Yosemite Valley and only threatens a very small part of the national landmark.
Highway 120 going into the park remains closed, but all other major highways are still open. Park officials are working to save two groves of giant sequoia trees, which are the largest living things on earth and are believed to be more than 2,000 years old, CBS reports.
Dozens of fires burning across the west coast have caused multiple air districts across Northern California to issue health advisories as tons of smoke settles over the area.
