To protect their hit song “Blurred Lines,” Robin Thicke, Pharrell and T.I. have filed a lawsuit over copyright claims.

CBS News reports, that they filed a suit after being contacted by Marvin Gaye’s family and Bridgeport Music with claims that their song copies from Gaye and George Clinton. The issues stem between Gaye’s song “Give It Up” and Clinton’s “Sexy Ways.”

The lawsuit states, “The basis of the Gaye defendants’ claims is that ‘Blurred Lines’ and ‘Got to Give It Up’ ‘feel’ or ‘sound’ the same.” It continues, “Being reminiscent of a ‘sound’ is not copyright infringement. The intent in producing ‘Blurred Lines’ was to evoke an era.”

Gaye’s family and Bridgeport had said they would file a suit against Thicke and company if they do not settle over the issue, The Hollywood Reporter writes. So Thicke decided to go ahead and go to court over the songs.

George Clinton tweeted "No sample of #Funkadelic's 'Sexy Ways' in @robinthicke's 'Blurred Lines' - yet Armen Boladian thinks so? We support @robinthicke @Pharrell!"

As previously reporte, earned his first number one album and sold 177,000 copies in the first week.

Determine for yourself if “Blurred Lines” copies from Gaye.
