The episode opens with Gail on a blind date. She soon tells him she is not interested in her blunt, rude Gail fashion (though he's so bad you can't blame her) and shortly ditches him.
At her place the next day, Gail tells Traci she has another date that night. Traci comments that her mom is really trying hard to find Gail someone and Gail says it's because she doesn't want her to end up a lonely spinster. Traci asks Gail to hang out with her and Andy instead, and when Gail declines, Traci asks Gail why she's avoiding Andy. Gail somewhat dodges the question and then tries to encourage Traci to date her brother, Steve. As they're talking, Chris walks in and surprises them. Gail leaps on him excitedly, though her excitement wanes when Denise (his girlfriend/baby mamma) walks in behind him and says they're staying at Gail's place while they visit. Dove, gives Gail a look to tell her to put on a happy face.
Meanwhile, Andy is at a park with a little boy. Nick approaches them and we learn the boy is Chris's son Christian. Andy tells Nick she's sad they haven't hung out in a while and then looks on as Nick plays with Christian.

Cut to Sam and Marlo. Marlo is picking out colors to repaint her bedroom and things get playful with her and Sam.
The show returns to Nick and Andy. They put Christian in the car and Andy starts telling Nick she's thought about what he said but there's problems with them being together. Her list: a) Gail; b) they work together and that's always complicated; c) Everyone's going to think it started under cover. But before she finishes, a woman in the park yells for help. She's huddled over an elder man sprawled on the ground and Nick runs over to help. Andy stays with Christian but when she calls 911 and they ask about the man's age, Andy leaves Christian to give the phone to the woman. She isn't gone long, but when she returns, the car's been broken into and Christian's missing.
The whole gang arrives on the scene and everyone is furious with Andy and Nick. Sam contradicts Oliver, acting sergeant while Frank's away, by saying he—and not Traci—will take their statement. While taking the statement, Sam asks Andy why she was at the park. She thinks it's a personal question but Sam insists it's not, and eventually she explains. Sam soon dismisses her and assigns her to desk duty answering phone tips. Nick passes Andy as he goes to talk to Sam and tries to reassure her that it's not her fault. He then yells at Sam for making her feel worse about what happened.
Back at the park, the officers are talking to witnesses. One woman mentions a suspicious guy who frequently hangs out at the park in a white van without kids or a dog. She gives them a plate number. After following up, Marlo tells Sam the van is registered to a business, and gives him an address.
Chris demands Traci to tell him exactly what's going on but all Traci can do is reassure him that they're doing everything they can and remind him why he can't be a part of the search effort.
Elsewhere, Sam and Marlo arrive at the business the van was registered to, a candy shop owned by a Mr. Ford. They ask him about the van and he says his brother Kevin drives it for deliveries. They ask him about Kevin but he soon he "lawyers" up. Marlo makes a call and learns that three years ago Kevin Ford was questioned in the disappearance of a 4-year-old boy who lived nearby and who was never found.
Back at the station, a distraught Denise says to Chris "this is why we moved to Timmins." Traci then asks Denise and Chris if they know Kevin Ford, which they don't. Soon the officers head out to find him, after Oliver gives the order, calling out Sam in the process for second-guessing him earlier.
Meanwhile, Gail goes to the lab to check on the blood sample found in the car Christian was kidnapped from. Holly says she is still working on it but that the blood sample from the car contained two different types of blood.
Cut to Sam and Marlo finding Kevin but discovering no evidence in his van. They bring him into the station and show him Christian's photo. He says he heard about what happened and knows the park where the kidnapping occurred but has never seen Christian before. Marlo gets in his face but he soon asks for a lawyer.
Next, Andy says she got a call about a man carrying a screaming toddler out of a movie theater and the description matches Christian. Traci checks the photo the theater's security team sent over and they see it's definitely Christian. Chris and Denise identify the man holding him as Christian's soccer coach from Timmins, Gene McKenzie. Denise gives Traci details about him and Chris starts shouting about how he should have known. He's so frustrated that he throws a chair and breaks glass.
In the interrogation room, Sam and Marlo ask Kevin if he knows Gene, to which he says no. The interview is interrupted when Dove comes in mid-interview and tells the officers that Oliver wants everyone in parade immediately. Oliver recaps what they know. Dove hands out photos of Gene and Oliver gives a plate they're looking for. Then he tells Marlo to cut Ford loose but she doesn't want to because of Kevin's past connection to a kidnapping case and the chance that Gene may not have worked alone. Oliver says it's Sam's call and to Marlo's chagrin, Sam sides with Oliver.
In the lab, Holly looks at the results and is rendered speechless.
Cut to Traci, Oliver, Dove, Chloe, Nick and Andy discussing the case at the station, when Gail comes in with the results. She tells them there were two samples but they are a genetic match, which means Gene is Christian's father. Dove takes the file to Denise, angrily throwing it in her face and demanding she tells Chris. She says she didn't know and begs Dove not to tell Chris, but he's standing in the doorway and has overheard the news. After cooling off, he tells Denise that whatever the DNA says, Christian's their son. He tells her to call Gene, and she does. After Gene yells at her for keeping Christian from him and insists she calls Christian his son, Denise is able to persuade him to tell her where he is: at the Play Palace.
Oliver lets Chris come with them. They spread out to search and Andy finds Gene and Christian playing basketball. The officers surround them and Chris has to be held back from attacking Gene. He yells at Gene to stay away from his family and Gene shouts back that it's not his family. But Christian runs to Chris, and the officers cuff Gene.
In the interrogation room Gene says that he was with Denise after Chris dumped her. He eventually realized that Christian was his. Traci asks why he didn't get a paternity test and he says because Denise wouldn't go for it and he'd never win custody because he hit her once when they were together. He says he's done only good things since then and that Denise signed him up for soccer so he could see him, but when Chris entered the picture Denise pulled Christian out of soccer and cut all ties with Gene. When he saw Christian with people he didn't know that day, he couldn't handle it. He was devastated that Denise never gave him the chance to be Christian's father.
Afterwards, at the station, Chloe asks Gail if she's seen Chris or Dove. Gail gives her a typical rude answer (kind of getting old) and then Chloe gives her an animal to give to Christian; it's a replacement for the one being processed as part of the crime scene. Before Chloe leaves, Gail struggles to say something about how Chloe isn't afraid to be herself. Chloe says "I get it Gail, apology accepted." Gail starts to say she wasn't apologizing but as Chloe walks away she says "yes you are."
Cut to Oliver confronting Sam about how he stepped on his toes all day. Sam nods his apology and understanding and then praises Oliver for his leadership.
Gail and Traci are in the locker room and Gail asks Traci if Leo's the reason she won't date Steve. Traci tells her she likes Steve but she's just figured out how to make her life work again, and she's not ready to add in dating.
Later, at Gail's house, Chris goes off on Denise for what she did. She says she wasn't sure who the father was but Chris yells that she should have made sure before she showed up and ruined his life. She says "I wanted him to be yours." It's not good enough for Chris and before storming out angrily, he tells her he doesn't know what to do because Christian still feels like his son.
Elsewhere, Andy arrives at her place to find Nick waiting. He says he wanted to check up on her and finish their earlier conversation. He agrees that she's right about why they shouldn't get together but he doesn't care. His speech: "You're the most amazing person I've ever met and the fact that you've thought this through means I've got a fighting chance. So I'll wait, however long that takes." He turns to leave but comes back to give her her phone, and when he does, Andy kisses him. FINALLY!
Cut to Gail meeting up with Holly at a batting cage to let off steam (instead of going on another blind date).
Sam calls Marlo, who is shown outside of Kevin Ford's house, making it seem that the missing persons case he was connected to is personal.
In the closing moments, Andy and Nick are clumsily getting hot and heavy. They land on the couch, Nick on top of her shirtless, with Andy's shirt undone. The two kiss giddily as the scene ends.
Tune in next week at 10 pm to see the result of this episode's late-night escapades.
