San Diego mayor Bob Filner is reportedly set to resign as he deals with mounting pressure from the city’s citizens and officials following the sexual harassment lawsuits filed against him.

NBC 7 News reports that Filner struck a deal with city officials and agreed to resign after a City Council meeting this Friday.

According to The Los Angeles Times, on Wednesday, Filner was seen carrying boxes out of City Hall, putting them in an SUV driven by a police officer, a member of his security team. He reportedly said his goodbyes to his staff and cleared his office.

Filner’s scandal has kept San Diego in the national headlines for over a month, as over a dozen women have filed complaints against the former Congressman for inappropriate behavior. He did admit that he needed help, but only went to therapy for two weeks. Voters called for a recall to remove him from office.

The LA Times reports that during mediation talks, it’s possible that Filner agreed to resign if the City Council agreed to pay the bill for his legal fees and damages from the suit filed by his former communications director, Irene McCormack Jackson.

Filner was elected in November. A special election could be set within 60-90 days.
