On August 14th, Seattle police stopped at the Hempfest to pass out small bags of Doritos to the festival's attendees.

During Seattle’s annual Hempfest, a festival that celebrates the marijuana, the police department came by to pass out the orange snack. According to ABC News, they called the stop-by Operation Orange Fingers. Its purpose was to draw attention to the marijuana laws in Washington.

Times reports that information was attached to the bags, listing the marijuana laws, and humorous do’s and don’ts when using marijuana.

Back in November, Washington legalized marijuana where it is legal for people over the age of 21 to be in possession of an ounce or less of marijuana for recreational purposes. It should not be used while driving and would be considered a misdemeanor if a minor is in possession of it.

While passing out Doritos, police found themselves out of the 1,000 bags they prepared within ten minutes of passing out the snack.

“Distributing salty snacks at a festival celebrating hemp, I think, is deliberately ironic enough that people will accept them in good humor,” said Sgt. Sean Whitcomb. “We want to make sure people learn the rules and that they respect the vote.”
