Getaway, which opens in theaters today and stars Selena Gomez and Ethan Hawke, just may be the worst reviewed movie of the year.
Rotten Tomatoes shows the film at a mere 1 percent approval rate from critics. The critics made comments such as “So forgettable that better title would be ‘Throwaway’” (Nell Minow from Beliefnet), “Like watching a friend play a racecar videogame… without offering you a turn” (Marshall Fine from Hollywood & Fine), and “If a friend gives you a free ticket, turn it down” (Rebecca Murray from About.com).
Ouch. The movie is about a former race car driver (Hawke) whose wife is kidnapped. He must save her with the help of a young hacker, dubbed Kid (Gomez). The pair embark in a car chase in which they have to follow the orders of a mysterious man in order to save the kidnapped wife.
These terrible reviews came soon after Gomez announced she wants to put her music career on hold in order to concentrate on acting, according to US Magazine.
At least Gomez can take solace in Rotten Tomatoes’ audience tomato meter, which is at 58 percent, a much better rating than the critics'.
Getaway is in theaters today.
