Stephen Colbert was supposed to have a very special edition of The Colbert Report for viewers, since it was going to be this year’s Colbchella festival, sponsored by Hyundai. He promised the car company a performance of the ‘song of the summer,’ Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky.”
Unfortunately, Comedy Central’s sister network MTV had an agreement with Daft Punk that the French duo wouldn’t perform before the MTV Video Music Awards later this month. But that didn’t get Colbert down. Instead, he decided to dance to the track, bringing in recent guests Hugh Laurie, Bryan Cranston and Jeff Bridges to sing and dance along. The dance even included a stop at a gym with dancers, Henry Kissinger’s office and Jimmy Fallon’s talk show set.

Colbert did ‘get lucky’ with Robin Thicke, who was just happened to be in the audience. Thicke performed the other big hit of the summer, “Blurred Lines.” Of course, this was the first time Colbert learned that the song actually had vocals since all he cared about was the topless dancers. Thicke assured him that there were words for him to sing.
According to Billboard, Colbert had hyped up Daft Punk’s performance when he appeared on Fallon’s show on July 29.
Daft Punk just released Random Access Memories. They will perform at the VMAs in Brooklyn on Aug. 25. Kanye West and Lady Gaga are also performing.
