Texas parents Marc and Lauren Gilbert were horrified to learn that their daughter’s baby monitor had been hacked into by a creepy stalker who was heard calling out the child by name and saying sexually explicit things.

ABC News reports that Marc and his wife were washing the dishes when they heard an unfamiliar voice coming from the bedroom of their 2-year-old daughter. The voice, which is said to have a British or European accent, was cursing and saying sexually explicit things as the child slept.

According to the report, the Gilbert’s had a web-cam like baby monitor set up in Allyson’s room to monitor while she slept. The monitor was connected to the internet and hacked by the unidentified man.

Marc recalls entering the room and hearing the hacker call Allyson an “effing moron,” and telling her, ‘”wake up you little slut.” He explained to the police as he and his wife entered the room the hacker took aim at him, calling Lauren a “bit**” and was controlling the camera. Marc ran over and disconnected the camera.

Marc explains that Allyson was born with a hearing impairment and thankfully did not hear the crude comments made over the monitor. “It’s somewhat of a blessing,” he explained. “If she had heard it it would have been a big problem.”

Marc compares the incident to having his home broken into. He tells WAFB via CNN, :As a father, I'm supposed to protect her against people like this…So, it's a little embarrassing to say the least, but it's not going to happen again."

Computer experts have since informed the best way to protect yourself should you use a monitor connected through the internet is to create a strong password with the use of a variety of numbers, letters and characters or using a Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2), CBS News reports.

Dave Chronister, managing partner of Parameter Security, reassures, “The thing to understand is that not all hackers have pointed at you as a target. You just happened to have a device that they know how to hack, so they hack it.”

Marc and Lauren did not report the incident to the police and plan on doing away with their previous monitor.
