The Civil Wars’ second album will not have a tour to promote it, but The Civil Wars still topped the Billboard 200 album chart during its first week.
Billboard reports that Nielsen SoundScan numbers show that the album sold 116,000 copies in its first week. The group’s previous best sales week came after the Grammys, when Barton Hollow sold 36,000 copies. That acclaimed debut album peaked at No. 10 on Billboard.
Joy Williams and John Paul White are not touring to promote the record and Williams has been left to promote the album herself. In fact, she said recently that she hasn’t even spoke with White since they finished the album.
Billboard notes that 69 percent of the album’s sales came from digital purchases.
A new Now compilation - the 47th - kicked off with 82,000 copies in its first week, which was good enough for second place. It’s a slight decrease from Now 46’s 91,000 start in May.
While Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines topped the chart last week, the album slid to No. 3, with 65,000 copies sold.
Jay Z’s Magna Carta… Holy Grail sold another 48,000 copies, taking the fourth slot, while the Teen Beach Movie soundtrack sold 38,000. Alaska Alexandra’s From Death to Destiny jumped to No. 6 with 38,000 copies sold.
The rest of the Top 10 includes Imagine Dragons' Night Visions (37,000), Five Finger Death Punch's The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell, Volume 1 (35,000); Tye Tribbett’s Greater Than (30,000) and Florida Georgia Line's Here's to the Good Time (26,000).
The Digital Songs Chart was still owned by “Blurred Lines” the song, which added another 346,000 downloads. Jay Z’s “Holy Grail” added another 166,000 downloads.
