The Republican National Party is not happy with NBC and CNN’s plans to produce a documentary and miniseries about former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and is threatening to boycott the channels.
Chairman Reince Priebus has sent letters to NBC and CNN over the planned movies, threatening to have the RNC vote on Aug. 14 about not letting either channel sponsor the primary debates. In the letters, Priebus says that the programs are nothing but “a thinly veiled attempt to put a thumb on the scales” in regards to the 2016 election, reports USA Today.
NBC recently announced they are producing a miniseries featuring Diane Lane as Clinton and CNN is working on a documentary. Priebus’ letter to NBC asks for the channel “to cancel this political ad masquerading as an unbiased production.”
In a public statement he said, “It’s appalling to know executives at major networks like NBC or CNN who have donated to Democrats and Hillary Clinton have taken it upon themselves to be Hillary Clinton’s campaign operatives,” The Huffington Post reports.
If NBC and CNN do not comply and the two channels are banned, it could help the RNC lower the amount of debates its candidates participate in. They hope to drop the number down to around 10 after having 20 debates in the last campaign.
