Los Angeles boutique Kitson is selling drug-themed shirts by designer Brian Lichtenberg and the prescription drug companies might sue.
The jerseys have the names Xanax, Adderall and Vicodin in large letters across the back and both social media and the drug companies are not happy, TMZ reports. Reps for Xanax and the others have said they are consulting with lawyers about stopping the sale of the shirts, or Kitson risks a lawsuit.
“We had no involvement NOR do we approve of the sale of such a product using Adderall to glorify the misuse of our product,” Adderall’s rep told TMZ. The three drugs are three of the most commonly abused prescription drugs.
A rep for Vicodin said, “Prescription drug use should not be trivialized. It is a serious issue and we will be taking legal action to stop the clothing company from trying to sell such a product.”
According to Fox Business, Lichtenberg said in a statement, “I have created a collection of t-shirts that are a parody of pop culture. This particular collection of prescription tee’s is simply a commentary on what I see happening in our society. … These tee’s are not meant to encourage prescription drug use or abuse.”
Social media has also not been positive for Kitson, especially after former Third Rock from the Sun actress Kristen Johnson, who has struggled with addiction, tweeted about the issue – she later deleted her tweet.
Others took issue with Kitson and their response.
