From comedies to animated films to futuristic adventures, this week’s major releases have something for everyone, including popular celebrities. In one of the new comedies, Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis play a fake husband and wife.
A pot dealer in debt to his boss is forced to smuggle drugs from Mexico in We’re the Millers. In order to not seem suspicious while crossing the border, he decides that he must not go it alone. He enlists in the help of his neighbors, a stripper, an awkward young man and rebel teen, to pose as his family on a road trip vacation. Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Emma Roberts, Will Poulter and Ed Helms star in the comedic adventure. The one hour and fifty minute film is rated R for sex, language, drugs and nudity.
A crop dusting plane with a fear of heights has a dream of winning a high flying competition in Disney’s Planes. With the help of a naval plane and the support of his friends, Dusty must overcome his fears if he has any chance of capturing the title in a race around the world. The PG animated film features the voices of Dane Cook, Stacy Keach, Brad Garrett, Teri Hatcher, Cedric the Entertainer, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, John Cleese, Priyanka Chopra, Gabriel Iglesias and Sinbad. It’s playing for one hour and thirty-two minutes in 2D and 3D theaters.
Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and Diego Luna star in the futuristic film Elysium. The one hour and forty-nine minute film is set in 2154, where the human race is separated by wealth. The poor live on a devastated earth while the rich are set up on an elite space station. When a man has the opportunity to create balance and equality, he is halted by the head of the high class. The action adventure is rated R for violence and language. It’s available in 2D and IMAX theaters.
In order to save his camp from demons and monsters, Percy and his friends must get a hold of a magical fleece in Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. Their search for the Golden Fleece takes them to the Bermuda triangle where they come in contact with evil creatures and zombies. The PG film is the big screen version of the popular book. The fantasy adventure runs for one hour and forty-six minutes. It’s available in 2D and 3D theaters.
The story of porn star Linda Lovelace is told in Lovelace. The limited released biopic shows the Deep Throat star’s struggle to overcome the abuse of her husband and the porn industry. The one hour and thirty-three minute drama stars Amanda Seyfried, Peter Sarsgaard, Sharon Stone, Wes Bentley, Hank Azaria, Bobby Cannavale, Chris Noth, James Franco, Eric Roberts, Adam Brody, Chloe Sevigny and Sarah Jessica Parker. It’s rated R for sex, nudity, language, drugs and violence.
Set on a rural highway in the summer of 1988, Prince Avalanche tells the story of a man and his girlfriend’s brother who are hired to paint the lines on the roadway. Stuck together for weeks, the two learn about themselves and form an unlikely bond. Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch star in the limited released comedic drama. The one hour and thirty-four minute film is rated R for sex.
Detective brothers go to extreme measures to get a confession from a murder suspect in Blood. Their careers are put in danger when a colleague uncovers their harsh tactics. The unrated thriller runs for one hour and forty-two minutes. It’s available in limited theaters.
In I Give It a Year, a couple who met at a party and marry a short time after have family and friends believing their relationship won’t last. As the madly in love couple gets ready to celebrate their first anniversary, they are tempted by the attractive people that come into their lives and even they aren’t sure they’ll make it. Rose Byrne, Rafe Spall, Anna Faris, Simon Baker and Minnie Driver star in the one hour and thirty-seven minute romantic comedy. It’s playing in limited theaters and is rated R for nudity, sex and language.
A vocal coach looks to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a movie trailer voiceover artist in In a World…. She attempts to step into the male dominated industry and soon finds herself competing against her father. Actress Lake Bell, wrote, directed and stars in the limited released comedy. The one hour and thirty-three minute film is rated R for sex and language.
A pregnant teen is a top contender to be sacrificed into a pit for the good of the community in Jug Face. The face of the person who will be fed to the pit is shaped into a jug. If no life is forfeited, evil is brought into the town. The limited released horror film runs for one hour and twenty-one minutes. It’s rated R for violence, language and sex.
Step out of the ring and into the mind of famed American boxer Ray Mancini with a href= http://www.thegoodsondocumentary.com/>The Good Son: The Life of Ray Boom Boom Mancini. The lightweight boxing champion stole the hearts of Americans as he strives to win the title for his father. His 1982 fight against Korea’s Duk Koo Kim left his contender in a coma, changed his life and the sport forever. The one hour and thirty minute documentary shows what it was like when Mancini came face to face with Kim’s wife and the son he never met. The unrated, limited released film features interviews from Kim’s family as well as actors Mickey Rourke, Ed O’Neil and boxer Sugar Ray Leonard.
This week, a number of celebrities joined forces for Disney’s Planes and Lovelace. Next week, a slew of high profile actors hit the big screen together in Lee Daniels’ The Butler. Also heading into theaters on August 16 are Ashton Kutcher’s Jobs, Harrison Ford’s Paranoia and the comedy Kick-Ass 2.
