Vin Diesel said weeks ago that Marvel contacted him for a meeting and we may now finally know what the meeting was about. He’s reportedly in talks to voice a CG character for Guardians of the Galaxy.
Deadline confirmed on Sunday that the Riddick star is in talks to voice Groot, an alien character that is literally a walking tree, with the ability to absorb wood to regain strength and to control other trees.
Diesel himself practically confirmed the news by posting an image for Groot on his Facebook page, but without any further comments.
That followed a June 26 post, in which he wrote “ Marvel has requested a meeting... no idea what for... haha, you probably know better than me...”
Guardians, which is already in production, has one other CG character to find a voice for - Rocket Raccoon. HitFix notes that Marvel is looking for an A-list star at Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp or Bruce Willis level, but nothing has been confirmed there.
Marvel didn’t announce Diesel at the D23 expo on Saturday, so it’s likely that the deal isn’t 100 percent done yet.
Diesel will next be seen on the big screen in Riddick on Sept. 6. Guardians hits theaters on Aug. 1, 2014 and is being directed by James Gunn.
