Warner Bros. has been approved to shoot the Man of Steel sequel with Batman and Superman in Michigan, with director Zack Snyder using Detroit as a backdrop.
MyFoxDetroit reports that the Michigan Film Office confirmed the news today. The production, which will take off in the first three months of next year, is expected to include $131 million spent in Michigan. “This project will further strengthen the reputation of Michigan and metro Detroit as a premier film destination,” Margaret O'Riley, director of the Michigan Film Office, said.
“Detroit is a great example of a quintessential American city, and I know it will make the perfect backdrop for our movie,” Snyder said, notes The Hollywood Reporter. “Detroit and the entire state of Michigan have been fantastic collaborators, and we are looking forward to working together on this film.”
Thousands of extras will be needed and the production should create over 400 jobs in the state. Warner Bros. estimates that they will use 500 local vendors and will spend $5.1 million at local hotels.
THR notes that recent productions in Michigan include Disney’s Oz The Great and Powerful and Transformers 4.
Man of Steel 2 will star Henry Cavill as Superman again and Ben Affleck as Batman. There have been rumors that Bryan Cranston may join as Lex Luthor, but that has not been confirmed yet.
The film hits theaters on July 17, 2015.
