Wedding days are special for everyone, especially the bride. But for a Kent, Washington woman, her wedding day was almost a disaster, until a 911 operator saved the day.
On Aug. 11, a distraught woman called 911 and five-year veteran Candice picked up the call. The woman told Candice that her wedding dress had been stolen and was shocked to hear that the ceremony was scheduled for that day. “I finally figured out what was going on, and asked when the ceremony was scheduled,” Candice told The News Tribune last week. “When she said ‘today,’ my heart broke in two for her.”
“My dress was worth $6,000,” the woman, whose name is Amanda, told ABC News. “It was actually from a cousin of mine so she was handing it down to me. It was more sentimental value.”
Candice stayed on the phone until police arrived and during that time, she decided to ask her supervisor, “Can I offer her my dress?” “All through the call I was thinking, ‘I have a dress,’” Candice recalled.
Candice then told the responding officer what she was about to do and Candice then asked the woman if she’d like to have her dress. The woman did want to see a picture, so Candice texted her the photo.
After Amanda decided that she liked the dress and that it would fit, Candice then needed the help of her family to locate the dress in time, which they did. The wedding went as planned and Amanda thanked her again.
Amanda spoke with ABC News with Candice by her side. “I want you to know you’re seriously an amazing person and not a lot of people would have done that,” Amanda told Candice.
Candice added, “It feels so good she got to have a wedding dress on her wedding day. I’ve been a bride and I know that it’s awesome. I made a new friend today.”
