Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer's September Vogue photo spread has stirred up discussions of whether or not her flirty pose is inappropriate for a CEO.
The photo shows the 38-year-old in a blue, knee length, tailored dress, lying upside down on a white lounge chair. Although the Vogue article describes Mayer’s success in the male-dominated world of technology and business, according to CNN, many people believe the photo wrongly focuses on sex appeal and beauty rather than career success.
The responses to Mayer’s feature in Vogue have been all over the spectrum.
Popular Photography editor Stan Horackek tweeted:
Nothing says, "I'm a powerful woman" like a photo of you upside down on a weird couch. Nice work, Vogue. Oof. http://t.co/kqZIvnQJRb

Businesswoman Angie McKaig had a slightly more positive, but still disapproving, take:
Being equal means you can be fem AND smart. However, still wincing over Marissa Meyer all stretched out for Vogue. http://t.co/Q4mLLZkKsG

It all boils down to some arguments that there is no reason a woman can’t be both successful and fashionable, while others insist the photo crosses the line. Comment below and tell us what you think!
