While critics may say that Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim lacked star power, they definitely can’t say that about his next film, Crimson Peak. Tom Hiddleston, best known for playing the villain Loki in Thor and The Avengers, has joined the film to replace Benedict Cumberbatch.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed today that Hiddleston has joined the gothic thriller. Cumberbatch had to drop out due to a conflict with another project, which some thought might be Star Wars: Episode VII. While his rep denied that, he did sign on for The Lost City of Z.

Crimson Peak has already had to deal with one big-name departure, since Emma Stone left and was replaced by Mia Wasikowska. Jessica Chastain and Pacific Rim’s Charlie Hunnam are also in the film, which starts production in January.

Hiddleston will next be seen in Thor: The Dark World in November and in Muppets Most Wanted in March.

Speaking of Hiddleston and Muppets, the British actor did take time out of his busy schedule to appear on Sesame Street. As EW notes, he appeared in a sketch with Cookie Monster to teach him about waiting.
