Insidious Chapter 2 made far more at the box office this past weekend than anyone anticipated, so obviously, an Insidious 3 is already in the works and the writer of the previous films has already been told to get to work.

According to Deadline, Leigh Whannell has already been told to write a third chapter in the series, which has come with low costs and high rewards for all involved. The series has been produced by Blumhouse Productions, Entertainment One, FilmDistrict and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions.

Variety reports that Insidious 3 will be produced by James Blum and Oren Peli. The executive producers will be Steven Schneider, Brian Kavanaugh Jones, Peter Schlessel, Lia Buman and Xavier Marchand.

Although James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring) directed the first two, there is some question as to whether or not he can direct the third film. He’s currently set to direct Universal’s Fast & Furious 7.

Insidious Chapter 2 had audiences screaming this weekend, grossing $41 million. It was made for just $5 million. The first film was made for $1.5 million and grossed $97 million during its run.
